Over 15 years ago, they took up The Samaritan Inn, which is a small homeless shelter. Today, the shelter generates more than $3,000,000 annually besides housing and feeding more than 200 people on a daily basis.
Lynne convinced Marc Sparks of the need to focus on the social service entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs often have innovative ideas but because of deficiency in capital, such ideas are not implemented. According to Lynne, funding of such ideas would create social success in the community.
Spark Tank was thus established with the view to funding social ideas in order to reap optimum social benefits that would have positive effects on the society. This way, Spark Tank funds grants and ensures that the nonprofit management is accountable for every shilling.
This year, the deadline of making applications would be on July 15. It is imperative to note that all the applications are carefully analyzed and three of the best applicants are chosen. These finalists are then called to present their ideas to a Spark Tank panel.
Each of the finalists is allotted 20 minutes, where the first 10 minutes each applicant presents his or her ideas and the next 10 minutes are utilized for questions and answer. Applicants should be organizations that have been in existence for more than 2 years.
