Thor Halvorssen is the president and founder of the Human Rights Foundation, which is an organization that is based in New York and was launched in 2005. Thor was born and raised in Caraccas and saw firsthand what it is like to have one’s human rights placed in jeopardy.

Thor’s father was thrown into prison after he exposed the corruption of Venezuela’s drug czar. His father was also tortured while in prison. Thor’s mother was shot during an anti-Hugo Chavez demonstration. Fortunately, she survived. Thor believes that individual liberty and human rights are not privileges. They are rights.

Thor has stated that he loves people and has gone the extra mile to support his cause. He has even put his own personal freedom in jeopardy to fight for others. In 2010, Thor traveled with to Ho Chi Minh City to interview ThichQuang Do, who is the patriarch of the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam. Thich’s church had been banned, and he had spent the last 28 years on house arrest.

Thor refers to himself as a classic liberal even though some consider him a conservative. The Human Rights Foundation hosts the Oslo Freedom Forum. Thor Halvorssen is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in political science and history. He graduated with honors. Thor is focused on human trafficking, threats to democracy, slavery and other threats to human rights.

Before Thor started the Human Rights Foundation, he was involved in other organizations that promoted human rights. In 1999, he became the chief executive officer of the Foundation For Individual Rights In Education. He has also been involved with The Eagle Forum, Feminists For Free Expression and The Heritage Foundation.

Halvorssen parents were Norwegian and Venezuelan. Thor was born and raised in a town known as Caracas and he speaks American English. His paternal grandfather was a Norwegian King during the Second World War. His mother is also a descendant of the president of Venezuela, known as Crisobal Mendoza.

Thor is respected for his knowledge in human rights. He has fought for the rights of people in different parts of the world, including his own country. While he was working in Venezuela as a drug czar, Thor was able to expose the corruption that was taking place in the government. However, this exposure made his father to be tortured in a prison in Caracas. The 39 year old also lost his mother after she was shot during an anti- Hugo Chavez demonstration. One of his cousins is also serving his time in prison in Venezuela after challenging the Chavista regime.

Halvorssen is quite different from the other individuals in the human rights docket. Most of them spend their time stereotyping their sad sack. He rarely spends his time talking about the sour world we are living in or the evils in the American hegemony. He doesn’t behave like his colleagues who pretend to hate people but love humanity.

Thor appointed Václav Havel to serve as the chairman of HRF up to 2011 when he died. After Havel’s death, Thor appointed Garry Kasparov from Russia. Garry is a well- known political activist and Russian chess master. Thor Halvorssen is trying his best to make the world a better place. The 39-year-old is ridding the world of tyranny has better prospects for the future. Thor is the president of Human Rights Foundation (HRF) through this organization he has made great effort to support the victim and at the same time revealing the how dictatorship has affected the world. He believes that human rights are not something that should be discussed as a bargaining tool rather they are the foundation upon which all other discussion rest.

His determination to reveal the truth are founded within his blood. He draws this charisma and enthusiasm from his grandfather who was a fighter, who also served as the Norwegian King’s council during the World War 2. His family has also been involved in human right activism, for instance, his mother was shot while on a peace protest. Halvorssen’s is passionate about exposing the corrupt individuals and government of the world which is motivated by the determination to see the end of the 70-year rule by the Kim’s in the country of North Korea. HRF is concerned by the impact of the life in North Korea.
